Will strongly oppose moves to privatize NMPT: U T Khader

Mangaluru, Oct 09, 2019: MLA and former minister U T Khader said he strongly opposed the moves of the Union Government to privatize the New Mangalore Port Trust.

 

 

Speaking to reporters here on October 9, Wednesday, he   said privatisation would result in loss of jobs to around 4,000 people employed in the around 40 shipping companies at NMPT.

Recalling the vision of Late U S Mallya who was instrumental in the establishment of the NMPT, Khader suggested that a delegation of  MPs and MLAs of the region should meet the Union Shipping Minister to oppose the  move.

Regarding a query on NRC, Khader said there was no need for confusion on the issue and  added that even state home minister should come up with a  statement  to clarify the issue.
