Mangalore, July 6, 2013: Senior Congress leader and former union minister B Janardhan Poojari has threatened to go on an indefinite hunger strike in case the Food Security Bill was not passed in the Parliament within the next six months.
Addressing press persons at the District Congress Office on July 6, Saturday, Poojari took strong exception to the opposition expressed by the opposition parties to the Bill proposed by the Centre.
Poojari further said if the Centre was keen on introducing this Bill in order to ensure nutritious food to the poor, the BJP is hindering the same stating it was not proper to introduce such a Bill when elections are round the corner. He said there is no wrong in implementing the Bill as it was a part of Congress manifesto prior to the 2009 elections.
On the theft of valuable ancient idols from a Basadi at Moodbidri, Poojari said he had visited the Basadi and exuded confidence that the police will be able to apprehend the thieves.
