Wenlock to be converted into dedicated hospital for Covid-19 patients : Kota Srinivas Poojary

Mangaluru, March 26, 2020:  DK District in-charge Minister  Kota Srinivas Poojary has informed that the Government Wenlock Hospital in Mangaluru would be transformed into a  dedicated hospital for Coronavirus treatment.

The minister gave this information after consultations with  heads of various medical colleges as well as doctors    with regard to the precautionary measures to be taken against Coronavirus, on March 26, Thursday.

He  said the Ayush building of 20 bed capacity  would be dedicated to Corona suspect patients while patients who are tested positive will be  shifted to the super speciality ward of the hospital. The  wards  in the old building of Wenlock Hospital with 705 beds would be utilised to treat Corona patients in a phased manner, he informed.

Measures would be taken to shift the 218 in-patients in Wenlock Hospital to the nearby medical college hospitals in three days. Outpatients visiting Wenlock would be treated at the nearby medical college hospitals.  Isolation wards of 20 bed capacity would be opened in medical college hospitals after taking into consideration the situation in the days to come, the minister said.

In the event of shortage of doctors and nurses in Wenlock, help would be sought from medical colleges to train nurses of private hospitals to treat Corona patients. Wenlock Hospital has 20 ventilators, he said adding measures would be taken to install 100 ventilators in the new building within a week.
