Mangaluru, Feb 27, 2020: We should pride in the fact that Ullal’s valiant queen Abbakka was the first woman freedom fighter of India to wage a war against foreign invaders, said Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh.
She was speaking after inaugurating a seminar and a poets’ session on Rani Abbakka at the Ravindra Kalabhavan of University College on February 27, Thursday as a precursor to Veerarani Abbakka Utsav.
Continuing, the DC said individuals as well as society can progress and prosper when we learn about history and incorporate the good elements in them. Every effort should be made to enlighten students of the valour of Rani Abbakka, she said.
Additional DC M J Roopa was also present as a chief guest. ZP CEO Dr Selvamani R presided over the function. Dr M Kotresh, Head of the Department of History of Tumakuru University, Dr Udaykumar, Principal of University College, Pranesh G, Assistant Director of Department of Kannada and Culture and others were present.
As part of the event, a seminar on "Tulunadina Veeraraniyaru" was held apart from a multi-lingual poets’ meet. Arathi H N, senior Programme Director of Bengaluru Door Darshan presided over the poets’ session.
