Water rate hike in Amblamogaru results in fracas

 Mangalore, Aug 05, 2014:   Villagers of Amblamogaru Panchayat near Ullal   protested in front of the  Gram Panchayat office on August 4, Monday in protest against the  all of a sudden decision of the Panchayat to increae  the minimum water rate from Rs 50 to Rs 75.

 

Though the Panchayat decided to hold an emergency meeting to discuss the impasse, pandemonium  prevailed in the meeting following a tussle. When Panchayat Vice President Rafique raised some other issue, villagers Ibrahim and Saleem were agitated and demanded that the water rate issue be discussed.

Rafique who lost his patience directed his followers to  send the two out resulting in pandemonium. At one stage the warring groups even flexed muscles and involved in fist fighting.

The situation came under control after the Panchayat Vice President assured to form a sub-committee to look into the issue.
