Once completed, the civic body had planned to make the data available to consumers on its website. It would be made available to only registered users. The survey was being done by multi-purpose workers of the corporation.

An initiative mooted by Mayor Harinath, the survey is expected to be over by next month end. “We have engaged 60 multi-purpose workers with 16 supervisors for the survey. Each of the workers has been given the target to cover 50 establishments a day,” K.S. Linge Gowda, Executive Engineer (water supply), told The Hindu, adding that so far details of 10,000 connections have been recorded.

The Executive Engineer said that the workers were visiting each establishment and collecting sequence number of water connection, water meter number, owner’s name and RR number of electricity connection. Using tablet PC, the workers were uploading those details along with a photograph of the establishment from the spot to a server of the corporation to store digitally.

The workers were also recording the connections if not being used and disconnected for various reasons. He said that the workers have been given the target of March 15 to complete the physical survey. Another fortnight would be used for tallying them with the existing data and make necessary corrections and integration. Hence, all efforts were being made to get the data ready by March-end.

As per existing data, the civic body had 82,000 water connections. As per revenue records, there were about two lakh revenue properties in the corporation. But the number of revenue properties need not match with the number of water connections.

For example, if an apartment has 50 houses, each one was being considered as a revenue property but it would have only one water connection.

The digital data would be useful for future water supply planning as well, he said, adding that if consumers had to get any clarifications they could call up the Assistant Executive Engineer (water supply) on 9448502777.
