War over Gandhi in Mangaluru

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, Nov 14, 2014: Is Gandhiji becoming a tool at the hands of political forces to achieve their own endeavours? Well, developments of late seem to be answering in the affirmative. After the PM’s  Swachch Bharat Campaign on Gandhi Jayanthi Day, received bouquets for its Mission Clean and Brickbats for using the name of the Mahatma, there seems to be now an ugly spar over the issue even in our own city.

A hoarding put up by an AICC Member as part of ‘Public Education’ in Balmatta area recently, questioned the BJP for using Gandhi as a ‘Mascot’ for their own gains and for “Trivialising” and “Belittling” the Mahatma. This however, got an immediate reply from the Convenor of Citizens’ Council Mangalore Chapter in the form of another hording which went to the extent of mocking the Congress itself for  bidding good bye to Gandhian ideologies. It even charged the party of using the Gandhi name to  gain power after duly forgetting his ideals. The second hoarding even goes to the extent of claiming that the Prime Minister would realise Gandhiji’s vision.

Should our politicians drag the  Mahatma, the icon of peace and non-violence into their dirty game of politics?
