Vittal Police bust vehicle theft racket; arrest 4

Mangaluru, June 1, 2016 : The Vittal Police have busted a vehicle theft racket with the arrest of four persons and seizing of as many as 11 two-wheelers worth nearly Rs 7.5 lakhs from them, informed  District Superintendent of Police Bhushan Gulabrao Borase.

Speaking to reporters here on June 1, Wednesday, he said that the arrested have been identified as  Mansoor (19) from Puttur, Taufiq (22) from Kabaka, Shabir (19) from Golikatte in Puttur and Majeed (25) from Kadirudyavar.

The arrests were made on May 31 evening. The police who noticed a Yamaha motorbike zooming forth at great speed signalled the rider and the pillion rider to stop but of no avail. The police had to then chase the vehicle  following which  the duo abandoned the vehicle at Perla and escaped only to  be soon apprehended. The SP said both admitted during interrogation that the bike which they were riding was  stolen from Kukkarakatte and that they were on way to Kerala to sell it.

They have also reportedly admitted that they had stolen two-wheelers from Madikeri, Belthangady, Puttur and Sullia and had kept  the vehicles in hiding in an abandoned house at Kambalabettu and near Big Bazar in Kasargod. All the 11 vehicles  including a Yamaha RX 100 which was stolen from Vittal,   two Honda Dio Scooters stolen from Madikeri, a Pulsar bike from Sullia, 3 Honda Dio and Yamaha FZ  which were  stolen from Puttur and a Yamaha DZ which was lifted from Belthangady have been seized.

The SP informed that the thieves used to break the handle  locks  and then use duplicate keys. He also requested the bike riders to use double locks while parking in other places.

 To a question about the proposed mass leave of constables on June 4, the SP said no one had applied for leave so far. He also informed that the Department had received a grant of Rs 1.68 crore for welfare of the police personnel last year.
