Vittal : Group of 50 grievously assaults 5 persons over previous enmity

Vittal, Mar 27, 2014 : Five persons sustained grievous injuries after they were brutally attacked by a gang of over 50 persons which  waylaid the jeep in which they were travelling  at Jaakimoole near Kambalabettu Darga on March 25, Tuesday night.A previous enmity is suspected to be the cause of the attack. Police have arrested five persons  in connection with the attack.

The incident occurred at around 10 pm when Lingappa Gowda, Shashi, Lokesh were heading home in the jeep of Karunakera Nayotottu. They were intercepted by a group including Sharief, Basheer, Aboobakker, Razak, Sauakath, Shameer and others and assaulted with lethal weapons.

They hit Karunakera’s head with an iron chain and attacked him resulting in a fracture of his hand. Others namely Lingappa, Shashi and Lohith too were assaulted and tortured. Though Lokesh’s brother Ravi who was passing that way in his bike stopped he was too dragged out of his bike and assaulted. They later damaged the jeep and set it ablaze and rolled into a nearby lake after thinking the driver was dead.

The incident had taken place when the annual Uroos of Kambalabettu Valiyullahi Darga Sharief was underway and several people had arrived. It is learnt, many others who were at the Uroos too had tried to set the keep ablaze. By the time the Vittal police rushed to the spot, the mob escaped. The police had a tough time in dousing the fire as water was not available in the area.

Bantwal DySP Rashmi, Circle Inspector Rajashekhar  Mistri and others rushed to the spot and additional police personnel have been summoned.

The five men arrested are Abdul Razak (27), Abdul Basheer (26), Isubu (32), Majeed (30) and Abdul Sattar (38). They have been  produced before the court. Police are on the look out for rest of the accused.
