Visually challenged children lead treasure hunt

Mangaluru, Feb 20, 2018: At least 18 visually challenged children turned navigators using braille clues, during the “United Toyota Guiding Stars 2018,” a treasure hunt competition organised by the Mangalore Round Table and Credai, Mangaluru.

Children from Roman and Catherine School will decipher the clue for their drivers, who took them to various points in the city as a part of treasure hunt.

The challenge is actually about communicating across natural barriers in order to decipher various clues. This year there was a dedicated toll-free number for assistance in case the clues were not clear or the participant needed a second clue.

Dr V Ravichandran, CEO, Diya Systems, Mangaluru, along with D B Mehta, CREDAI president, Mangaluru Chapter, and Prabhakar Rao Aroor, chairman of United Toyota, flagged off the event from the United Toyota showroom, Padil.

Neil Rodrigues, project convenor, MCRT190, made a presentation to the gathering about the projects implemented at the various government schools that MCRT190 has renovated in the last one year, with funds raised from similar events. Development works have been carried out at the Government Higher Primary School, Bokkapattana, Government High School, Deralakatte. Development works are being initiated at the Government School in Car Street.

He explained the concept of Round Table India’s national-level objective - “Freedom Through Education” and how Round Table at Mangaluru, was going beyond the concept of development of just four walls and a ceiling for a classroom through their local movement called “Experience Education.”

Winners   :  The winners are Srijith B S and team with visually challenged navigator, Aditya Moodabidri, won the first place, while Devdas and team with visually challenged navigator, M Kaif, being the runner-up.

The treasure hunt ended at the Mahesh Pre-University College. Every participating team was given a framed photograph of their flag-off memento for their participation, along with the participation certificate.
