Vishwa Konkani Scholarships worth Rs 3.5 crore distributed to 676 students

Mangaluru, August 20, 2017: World Konkani Centre, Mangaluru today disbursed merit-cum-means scholarships worth Rs 3.5 crore to 676 students under its annual Vishwa Konkani Student Scholarship Fund (VKSSF).Through this scheme 592 engineering and 53 MBBS aspirants will gain complete financial support their professional education under VKSSF. Another 31 scholarships worth Rs 1 lakh per student were provided to those who wish to study overseas.

The scholarships were distributed to the students belonging to various Konkani speaking communities at a ceremony held at TV Raman Pai Convention Centre in the city.

Harish Bhat, brand custodian, Tata Sons and chairman, Tata Global Beverages Ltd and Tata Coffee Ltd, was the chief guest of the occasion and he handed over the scholarship to the first recpient. Dr P Dayananda Pai, entrepreneur and Chairman of Vishwa Konkani Kendra presided over the function.

Basti Vaman Shenoy, president, World Konkani Centre, T V Mohandas Pai who is also the main patron of the scholarship and eminent personalities Praveen P Kadle, CEO, Tata Capital Pvt Ltd, Ullas Kamath, joint MD, Jyothy Laboratories Ltd, M Jagannath Shenoi, managing partner, Ganesh Beedies, Mysuru, V Leeladhar, former deputy governor of RBI, Sundeep Bambolkar, joint MD, Indoco Remedies, CA G Nandagopal Shenoy, Devagiri Tea and Products and Dr P D Shenoy, IAS, former chief labour commissioner also participated in the programme.

In his address, Harish Bhat advised the students to strive hard to achieve their ambition and bring glory to their families and the Konkani community in general.

In his keynote address, T V Mohandas Pai asked the students to get inspired by the galaxy of high profile dignitaries who participating the function.

Basti Vaman Shenoy observed that the students were the community’s future and thanked the philanthropist for donating to the scholarship fund.
