Vishwa Konkani Kendra distributes Rs. 3.5 cr worth scholarships to 5000 students

He was delivering the key note address at the Kendra’s 6th scholarship distribution function held at TV Raman Pai Hall on August 20 being Konkani Manyata Diwas. Pai also exhorted students to be brand ambassadors of Konkani by protecting and promoting the Konkani  language, literature, culture as well as  its distinct identity.

In his introductory remarks, Ramadas Kamath U, President of Vishwa Konkani Kendra Scholarship Fund  said scholarships amounting to Rs 3.5 crore has been distributed among 5000 students this year.  Since the past six years over 12000 students have availed scholarships amounting to Rs 12 crore, he added.

Sandeep V Bambolkar, Joint MD of Indoco Remedies, Mumbai, SM Sayyed Khaleelur Rehman, Chief of Anjuman Institutions, Bhatkal,  Jayanarayan Bhat,  CEO of  Raycam Ltd, UK,  Prakash Pai, MD of Puzzolona Group of Hyderabad, Ullas Kamath and MD of Jyothi Laboratories, Mumbai distributed scholarship to the students.

Basti Vaman Shenoy, President of the Vishwa Konkani Kendra delivered the Konkani Manyatha Diwas message. Pradeep G Pai, Secretary of the Scholarship Fund,  Venkatesh N Baliga, Vice President , B Prabhaker Prabhu, Secretary and others were present.

Speaking to media after the ceremony, Ramadas Kamath said  it has been proposed to award fellowship for research projects from this year. He said four to five talented students   doing research in the field of culture, history and commerce would be chosen. A committee has also been formed to choose the beneficiaries, he added.
