Mangaluru, May 10, 2017: A presentation at Mangaluru said that United Kannada Sangha, Australia, Manjunath Education Trust, department of Kannada and culture and Anivasi Kannadigara Kosha(Overseas Kannadiga’s Cell) will organise 13th Vishwa Kannada Samskruti Sammelan in Australia on May 13 and 14.

The 13th Kannada cultural convention will be held at Kingston Art Centre auditorium in Melbourne on May 13 and at Ryde Civic Hall in Sydney on May 14. Dr Arathi Krishna, deputy chairperson of the NRI Forum, Karnataka, will inaugurate the convention at 3.30pm on May 13. Hamsalekha, Indian film composer and songwriter, will preside over the two-day convention.

Vishwa Kannada Samskruti Sammelana founder president M K Manjunath Sagar said two-day convention will be a cultural extravaganza with artists from Karnataka showcasing their talent. Alan Tudge, member of Australian Parliament and Minister for Human Services, Inga Peulich, Shadow Minister for Multicultural Affairs, Victoria, Vishwa Kannada Samskruti Sammelana Samiti honorary president Kadabam M Ramesh, will be the guests at the inaugural ceremony on May 13, he said.

The inaugural ceremony will commence with prayers by Kannadigas settled in Melbourne. Pushkara Centre for Performing Arts, Bengaluru will present Bharatanatyam. Actors Mandya Ramesh and Naveen D Padil will present comedy show. Yakshagana artist Gajanana Anantha Hegde from Sirsi will present solo yakshagana. Artists of Kailasa Kaladhara Cultural and Charitable Trust will present folk dance and Rangaputhali Yashodha Puppetry will present bombeyata, Manjunath said.


As part of the convention a session on ’relation between World Kannadigas and Karnataka’ will be held and Arathi Krishna will chair the programme. Noted singers Go Na Swamy, Subbalakshmi Mysuru and Geetha Sathyamoorthi, Bengaluru will present musical programmes. Vishwa Manya Prashasthi 2017 will be bestowed on Ramappa Benchina Maradi, Mahesh Koni, Gokak (medical field), Shailesh Kumar, Bengaluru (social work) and Subramani M Kolara (Service to Kannada language) on the occasion, he said.


On day 2, a book release, poets’ meet and cultural programmes will be held at at Ryde Civic Hall in Sydney. Gonchalu, a book written by N P Suvarna and Prabha S Suvarna will be released on the occasion. The poets’ meet will be chaired by poet Chandrashekhara Boloor, he added.
