Vijaya Bank ex-chairman Mulki Sunder Ram Shetty Birth Centenary fete on Apr 25

Mangaluru, April 21, 2015: The birth centenary celebrations of Late Mulki Sunder Ram Shetty, the former Chairman of Vijaya Bank who was instrumental in  leading the Bank on the path of progress in  the ‘60s and ‘70s will be celebrated  at his hometown Mulki on  April 25. The Bappanadu Sri Durga  Parameshwari Temple premises is the venue of the event scheduled to begin at 11 am that day.

Informing this to reporters here on April 21, Tuesday, N. Vinay Hegde, Chancellor of Nitte University and President of the Centenary Celebrations Committee   said the  programme will be inaugurated by Dr D Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala and Padma Vibhushana Ward winner. Vinay Hegde said he will preside over the function.

sunder ram she...A colourful procession featuring the rich folk and cultural splendour of the region will be taken out from Mulki Vijaya Bank Branch till the programme venue, Vinay Hegde said and added that the procession will be arranged under the leadership of Dr Mohan Alva, Chairman of Alva’s Education Foundation of Moodbidri. The procession will be flagged off by Dugganna Savantharu, Mulki Seeme Arasu.

The birth centenary celebrations will be attended by a galaxy of dignitaries including B Ramanatha Rai, Vinay Kumar Sorake, DK and Udupi District in-charge Ministers respectively, Abhaychandra Jain, Youth Services Minister, Nalin Kumar Kateel,  Shobha Karandlaje, MPs Meenakshi Bangera, Mulki Panchayat President, Dr RN Shetty, entrepreneur, Erya Lakshminarayana Alva, veteran writer, Dr BM Hegde, former vice chancellor MAHE, Dr HS Ballal, Pro chancellor of Manipal University, Dr Shantharam Shetty, Pro-Chancellor of Nitte University, Kishore Sansi, Vijay Bank Chairman, Dr Mohan Alva of Alva’s Foundation, K Prakash Shetty, Chairman of MRG Group of concerns, Amarnath Shetty, former minister, Appanna Hegde, religious leader, K Sadananda Shetty,former chairman of Vijaya Bank, Karnire Vishwanath Shetty, President of Mumbai Buntara Sangha, Aikala Harish Shetty, Vice President of Bunts Federation and Mulki Ashok Kumar Shetty, son of late Sunderram Shetty.

Vinay Hegde said the district remembers the yeoman contributions of Sunder Ram Shetty in various ways. A college is functioning in his name at Shirva, while an auditorium has also been constructed in  recognition  of his contributions to Vijaya Bank. Even his bust has been unveiled. Vinay Hegde said.

A seven storied building in Vidyagiri premises in Moodbidri is also named after Sunder Ram Shetty, Vinay Hegde said adding four books on Shetty’s his life and achievements have already been published. The Kantavara Kannada Sangha has even brought out his memoir “Vijaya Bankina Vijayashilpi Mulki Sunder Ram Shetty,” informed Vinay Hegde.

He said his father KS Hegde and Sunder Ram Shetty were close friends and that he was greatly influenced by the life and achievements of late Shetty.

Vinay Hegde also informed of the plans to have a memorial  for Sunder Ram Shetty in his hometown  Mulki.
