Ratnaprabha was appointed chief secretary in November 2017. Former chief minister Siddaramaiah had extended her services by three more months.

Vijay Bhaskar, a 1983 cadre IAS officer, also served as Commissioner of BBMP.

The state government had written a letter to the Centre seeking second extension to Ratnaprabha as Chief Secretary. According to reports, the State government withdrew its recommendation.

Hence, the government went ahead with Vijaya Bhaskar’s appointment. The cabinet meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy had cleared the appointment on Thursday.

The name another senior IAS officer DV Prasad was also doing the rounds for the chief secretary’s post. However, it is said that Prasad would succeed Prabha as he is being favoured by senior leaders in both JD(S) and Congress.
