Mangaluru, Oct 7, 2015 : In a case of vigilante attack, five students of Mangalore University including three girls belonging to different religions were chased and one of them beaten up, reportedly by a gang of five persons on October 6, Tuesday, In a swift operation, the police have managed to arrest all the five accused.
Those arrested are Chandra, Abhishekh, Prajwal, Sunil and Suhan from Mogaveerapatna.
Sources said Shafiyullah of Puttur along with Ramesh of Ballari and three other girls were on an Ullal trip.
The final year PG students had arrived at the Mogaveerapatna beach after visiting the Ullal Dargah and Someshwar Temple The students were making merry at th beach when a few locals on noticing them and understanding that they were students of different communities began to follow them.
Soon the terrified students boarded a bus to the University while the local youth followed them in an autorickhsaw and intercepted the bus near Tokkottu. If Shafiyulla escaped, Ramesh was caught hold of brought to the campus to show Shafiyullah’s class and hostel room. The group then attacked Ramesh.
Soon the Konaje police were informed and the assailants were arrested.
Investigations are underway.
