Veteran Tulu theatre personality Machendranath Pandeshwar no more

machendranath pandeshwaraMangalore, Apr 7, 2013: Renowned Tulu theatre personality Machendranath Pandeshwar  passed away here  on April 5, Friday night. He was 78. Machendranath breathed his last at his daughter’s residence  at Yekkur here.

Machendranath Pandeshwar’s  theatrical journey began with the Tulu play ’Mokeda Magaleg Kuselda Kandani,’ penned by him. He has authored over 100 popular plays  including ‘Bolpuge Bale’ ‘Telpere Kalpi,’  ‘Mande Arvattana Mundasu Tammalena’ etc. One of his most popular play is ‘Councillor Kogganne.’


His play ‘Portu Kantndu’ was made into a Tulu movie ‘Daareda Seere.’ He had also authored dialogues and lyrics for ‘Daareda Seere,’ ‘Pettayi Pili’ and ‘Badkere Budle.’


Some of his Kannada plays include ‘Yamalokadalli Miss Moonlight,’ and  ‘Devadas.’ Pandeshwar was also the recipient of  Karnataka Nataka Academy, Tulu Sahitya Academy and District Rajyotsava Awards.
