Veteran Kannada writer Anantha Murthy passes away

U R Ananthmoorthy passes awayBangalore, Aug 22, 2014: Jnanpith awardee and renowned Kannada writer U R Anantha Murthy passed away on Friday. He had been hospitalised for infection and fever, and was in a critical condition, a senior doctor said today.


He is survived by wife, a son and a daughter.


The condition of 82-year old Murthy, admitted 10 days ago, had deteriorated further and it was being closely monitored with multiple support system including dialysis, support for blood pressure, antibiotics for infection, and other measures, Manipal Hospital Medical Director & Chairman - Medical Advisory Board H Sudarshan Ballal told reporters here.

Anantha Murthy had multiple problems including kidney disease for which he had been on dialysis for the last few years.

Dr Ballal said Murthy was hospitalised with infection and "his condition has deteriorated in the last day or so."

Inspite of his kidney ailment, Murthy was very active both physically and mentally including extensive travelling and took up lot of assignments but in the last 10 to 15 days his condition worsened "to some extent", he said.

 

Three day mourning has been declared by the state government as a mark of respect. The Govt has declared holiday on Saturday for schools, colleges and Govt offices. His cremation will done with full state honour.

Mortal remains of Sri Anantha Murthy will be kept at Kalashetra, Bangalore for the public to pay respect.

 

Many political leaders including B S yeddiyurappa and Prime Minister, Narendra Modi condoled the demise of Mr. Murthy.

 

Pro-Hindu groups in Mangalore and Chikmagalore have celebrated the death of Ananthamurthy with crackers and fire works
