Verbal clash between BJP, Congress workers at Addoor; VHP leader’s car damaged

Mangaluru, Feb 20, 2016: Verbal clashes between political party workers were reported in at least two places during the elections to the Zilla Panchayat and Taluk Panchayat which commenced in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts on Saturday morning.

In the first incident reported from  near a polling booth at Addoor, the car belonging to VHP District Working President Jagadish Shenava was attacked by some people, said to be Congress workers.

Shenava  had  come to the booth  to cast his vote  almost the same time when  there was an altercation between BJP and   Congress workers after  the local BJP candidate Harish had arrived at the booth to exercise his franchise.  Though police had rushed to the spot and quelled the mob, some people reportedly headed towards Shenava’s car and damaged it. The rear windshield of the car  has been damaged in the incident.

The situation was later brought under control by the police.

In another incident  reported from Ammemar in Pudu, there was a war of words between Congress and SDPI activists. Here too the police managed to bring the situation under control quickly.

District Superintendent of Police Sharanappa has also visited the place following  the incident .
