Mangaluru, Nov 27, 2016 :  The interim ban on all Kambala races in the state until the disposal of PIL filed by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PeTA) has drawn a lot of criticism from the people of Tulunadu.

Kambala is very much part of the tradition of people of this part of the state with a chequered history of more than 800-years and banning the folk sport is wrong, said Yogesh Shetty Jeppu, founder president of the Tulunada Rakshana Vedike on Saturday.

Addressing reporters, Yogesh said the ban will further dent the already declining agricultural practice in the state. Dates of 25 kambalas (slush track buffalo races) that were to be held in Udupi, Dakshina Kannada and Kasargod districts were already fixed and preparations were under way, he said.
