Varsha Alva case : Court orders filing of criminal case against 2 fellow students

Puttur, Nov 13, 2015: The  Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court has passed a judgement  ordering registration of criminal cases against two students  in connection with the  case of  suspicious death of  Varsha Alva, a student of Vivekananda College in the town on September 28, 2014.

The court has ordered that the two fellow students of Varsha, namely Sukesh Raj, a B.Com student and Rachana  who have been named accused be booked under Sections 302, 379 and 201 read with section 34 of Indian Penal Code.

Varsha (19) who hailed from Konchady in Mangaluru had died after being reportedly run over by a moving train after her churidar veil got entangled  in the track while taking photographs   near the railway track close by the College. Another student named Ratna  of Eshwaramangala had sustained serious injuries in the incident.

 Following the tragedy, Varsha’s father Dayananda Alva, an ex-serviceman had moved the court alleging that his daughter was  murdered and that efforts had been also made to destroy evidence. He had also alleged that the two accused had stolen the diamond pendant which Varsha was wearing.
In his complaint, Dayananda had said that his only daughter Varsha who was a second year engineering student in Vivekananda College reportedly had a discord with some classmates as learnt by him  from Varsha. He said on September 28 last year  Rachana and some other girls with whom Varsha had a discord  had approached Varsha to state that they were no more interested in  pursuing enmity. Dayananda in his complaint  alleged that the fellow students after promising a birthday party for Varsha had taken her near the railway track  on the pretext of taking photos and had then reportedly pushed her  when the train approached.

Though the Railway Police had initially investigated the case, Varsha’s father was not happy with the probe and had  moved the court.
