Mangaluru Apr 23, 2016: The Vishwa Bhoomi Dina or Earth Day programmes organised by Anti-Pollution Drive Foundation and Pana Pre-University College, were inaugurated at the College premises on April 22, Friday by Vijaynath Vittal Shetty, entrepreneur and Trustee of Shastavu Sri Bhoothanatheshwara Temple. A variety of programmes aimed at sensitizing youngsters on environment conservation were arranged on the occasion. As part of the inaugural, Shetty planted a sapling and released an awareness banner.
In his address, Shetty stressed the need for stricter regulation for vehicles in order to check emission.
Usha Rao, Chief Operating Officer of Pana Educational Institution said there were plans to teach children the art of ploughing fields from the next academic year. The College also intends to achieve self-sufficiency in electricity in the coming years by opting for solar power.
Ramdas Arya, Dean, Shyam Shetty,Vice-president of Pana Education and many others were present.
Quiz, elocution, singing, painting and other contests were conducted. Awareness workshops on water conservation, solid waste management and air pollution were also organised.
The event was held in partnership with Earth Day Network, Washington, USA, the international coordinating agency for all Earth Day events worldwide.
