Valuables worth Rs. 12.88 lakh stolen from temples

Byndoor, Apr 07, 2018: Unknown thieves broke into temples in two different places in the district and decamped with valuables worth Rs. 12.88 lakh.


TheftIn the first incident, a gang broke into the Sri Lakshmi Venkataramana Temple at Uppunda in Byndoor taluk between 9 p.m. on April 5 and 6 a.m. on April 6 and escaped with gold and silver ornaments worth Rs. 12.72 lakh.

A case had been registered at the Byndoor police station and investigation is on, the police said.

In the second incident, unidentified persons broke into the Sri Mahavishnu Temple and Mahalingeshwara Temple at Havanje village in Brahmavar taluk between 6 p.m. on April 5 and 9 a.m. on April 6 and decamped with silver ornaments worth Rs. 16,000 and cash in Rs. 5,000 from the Hundi box.

A case had been registered at Brahmavar police station and investigation is on, the police said.
