Uppinangady : Ill-health drives elderly couple to suicide

Uppinangady, July 17, 2018: A couple hailing from Periyottu in Barya village near  here  have ended lives at their residence on July 16, Monday.

 

The deceased are Sanjeeva Poojary (60) and his wife Seetha (57). Ill-health is said to have driven the couple towards the extreme step. Sanjeeva Poojary who was a daily wager  was asthmatic and could not go to work since some time. Meanwhile  his wife too was suffering from health problems.

The couple ended their lives when  their son was away at his work place. Their daughter however was in the house.

On Monday afternoon, the couple’s daughter-in-law heard wails from inside the room which the couple had locked from inside.  She immediately informed neighbours who rushed to the spot and broke open the door. Sanjeeva Poojary had died by then. Seetha died while being taken to hospital The daughter-in-law  said whenever they were ill  the couple used to say that they would die together. She also added that  none in the family had taken their words seriously.
