Upa Lokayukta’s action, PRO clarification

Mangaluru, Feb 01, 2018: Responding to allegations in the media that  Upa Lokayukta’s order to the DK assistant commissioner and tahsildar to verify the land records of properties belonging to the Mangalore Bishop Rev Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza during his hearing in Mangaluru on January 28 Sunday, as of no standing;  Mangaluru Diocese PRO Rev William Menezes, in a press statement, seems to have said that the properties held by the Bishop and diocesan institutions are legal and long standing.

“There is no encroachment into any government land or has any illegal act been done,” he said and added that St Joseph Asylum has filed eviction case against Valerian Texeira and Victor Pais and the same is in process in the court of law.

“To create a scene to defame us with the false allegations, a complaint was lodged before the Lokayukta and the Upa Lokayukta on January 28,  during the inquiry, it was found that there is no substance in the allegations and Lokayukta has no jurisdiction in the matter.”

“ The Bishop being a private party, Lokayukta institution has no jurisdiction to take any action,” it is stated.

“ The Lokayukta ordered investigations  whether the land occupied by the complainant is a government land and whether they have got any right for the same,” he said and added that the enquiry is actually against the complainants who are required to prove their rights.  Allegations against the Bishop of Mangalore is absolutely false, the statement added.
