Udupi, Dec 31, 2018: Speaking to presspersons after he was felicitated by President Ram Nath Kovind on the completion of the 80th year of his initiation to the monastic order (Sanyasa Sweekara), Vishwesha Tirtha Swami of Pejawar Mutt has said that he wanted to establish a university in the name of the exponent of Dwaita philosophy Sri Madhwacharya at Pajaka in Udupi district.

Pejawar seer. The Pejawar seer said that the proposed university would impart both spiritual and secular education. Pajaka was also the birthplace of Sri Madhwacharya. He had sought the permission of the Union government for setting up the university.

He was already constructing a residential education campus where education would be given from LKG to graduation at Pajaka and a sum of Rs. 8 crore had already been spent for it. But more funds were required now, he said.

To a query, the seer said that he had urged the Union government that just as the birth anniversary of the exponent of Advaita philosophy Sri Sankaracharya was celebrated, so too the birth anniversaries of Sri Madhwacharya and the exponent of Vishistadwaita Sri Ramanujacharya should be celebrated. Sri Madhwacharya’s birth anniversary could be celebrated as “Bhakti Din” (Devotion Day). He had also urged the Union government to include Tulu language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.

On the Ram Temple issue, the seer said that advocates were saying that the issue was likely to get delayed in courts. The pros and cons on issuing an Ordinance on the Ram Temple were being discussed. The sadhus and sants too would discuss this issue at the Dharma Sansad to be held in Prayagraj on January 31 and February 1, 2019.

“When Mr. Kovind was leaving from here, I just told him that all of us wanted the Ram Temple to be built in Ayodhya. I did not say anything more on it. He only smiled,” the seer said.

To a query, the seer said that he was ready to debate on any issue with senior journalist Dinesh Amin Mattu, be it here or in Bengaluru. “Sri Mattu is always courteous before me and criticises me only later,” the seer added.
