University College organizes ’Madhyama Vedike’

Mangalore, Mar 2:  The Journalism Department of University College and Sahamata Film Society of Mangalore jointly organized “Madhyama Vedike” at Shivaram Karanth Bhavan of University College on March 2, Tuesday. Dr K N Vijayaprakash, Commissioner of Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) inaugurated the event and said that the study of films has more essence that any other branch of study.

Speaking of the effectiveness of films as a form of mass media, the commissioner said that films can disseminate information and create awareness in an effective manner. Moreover, films also help people forget their worries by providing entertainment.

Dr. H R Lakshminarayana Bhat, the principal of University College, delivered the presidential address and said that many people are of the opinion that electronic media are more effective and more interesting than any other form of media. The Journalism Departments of many colleges have conducted one-day film festivals with the purpose of creating awareness among the students, he said.

Dr. Udaya Kumar Irvatoor, the lecturer, made the welcome speech and delivered the introductory speech. Rajatha, a student of journalism, compered the programme. Eshwar Patel and Somashekar, lecturers of the Journalism Department were present on the occasion.

The films “Vimukti” and “Devakaru” were screened. This was followed by an interactive session, during which the films were discussed.
