Ullal residents fear their homes will be washed away by sea

Mangaluru, June 01, 2017: SW monsoon in sight , residents in Kileriyanagara, Someshwara and parts of Ucchila fear that their houses will not be able to face the fury of the rough seas.

Their fears are further complicated by the fact that waves have already started lashing houses and mosques situated on the shores in the region from May 31,Wednesday.

There are over 10 houses in Kileriyanagara that have been hit by waves. The residents are worried that sea erosion has started even before the monsoon has hit the region.

Local residents feel that sea erosion intensified in the region following the work on a breakwater at Kotepura and Mogaveerapattana.

No support  : The residents said that during Minister U T Khader’s recent visit, officials had promised to take temporary relief works within three days. However, neither the district level nor CMC officials visited the spot.

Badriya Juma Masjid, Kileriyanagara president Khaleel said that, "We are not able to cook at home as we fear getting washed away in the waves. The minister should visit the spot immediately and find a permanent solution at the earliest."
