Udupi to organise ‘Sahabhojana’, for administrators and Koragas

Udupi, Feb 14, 2017: Presiding over a workshop on the Protection of Civil Rights Act 1955, and Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act 1989, at the Udupi District Offices Complex; T. Venkatesh,  Udupi DC, on Feb 13, Monday said that the district administration will organise a “Sahabhojana” of all government officers with the members of the Koraga community.


Udupi DC.DC Venkatesh said that with the objective of removing the social ill of untouchability in society, it had been decided to organise a “Sahabhojana” in select colonies of Koraga community in the district. Under this programme, the officers would eat food prepared by the members of the Koraga community.

The elected representatives of the district too would be invited to participate in this programme. The officers of the Social Welfare Department had been directed to select the colonies and select the dates for the “Sahabhojana”, he said.

DC Venkatesh said that street plays would be held in all 158 gram panchayats of the district to create awareness among the people about the Protection of Civil Rights Act 1955, and Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act 1989.

Senior judges and advocates would be urged to deliver lectures on these two Acts at programmes to be held at the district-level here. Workshops on these two Acts would also be held for all elected representatives, voluntary organisations and officers,  Venkatesh said.  Priyanka Mary Francis, CEO of Zilla Panchayat, S.N. Ramesh, District Social Welfare Officer and other officers were present.
