Udupi to get good general makeover for paryaya

Udupi, Sep 19, 2015:  The DC Dr Vishal told media that plans are advancing to introduce full-fledged infrastructure facilities expecting a huge number of people during the Paryaya. He added that the projects had been designed to last long as the amount invested would be huge.   The district administration is all out  with plans for beautification of the city and surrounding areas, in the backdrop of forthcoming Paryaya celebrations.

The arrangements made for Mahamasthakabhisheka at Karkala in January, where the entire town of Karkala received facelift and the fund released was judiciously used, DC Vishal said a similar concept would be implemented here.   The Paryaya should not be limited only for two days, instead the public should feel the festivity and freshness forever. It is possible only by introducing the infrastructure facilties that are sustainable in the long run.

The traffic system will be studied and revamped to ease congestion. The police help would also be sought. Yet again measures will be taken to ensure that the traffic system put in place will enable permanent solution to the traffic woes encountered by the people.

DC Vishal added that the toilets would also be built as the footfalls would increase. The situation also calls for setting up an extensive  transport infrastructure. He said a plan to upgrade 30 main roads, at a cost of Rs 12.5 crore, is submitted to the government. This includes the road adjoining the Brahmagiri-Bannanje road and renovation of the bridge at Kalsanka.

He said as two national highways criss-cross the district, it was essential to take care of the irregularities bothering the transport system in the district. He added that national highway widening process from Kundapur to the border of the district was underway and the work was going on at a rapid pace.

About 181 arbitrations were received, of which 142 were genuine. The government had released Rs 8.75 crore as compensation package, while the amount is enhanced to Rs 17 crore.  DC said the chief minister had agreed to release Rs one to two crore which would help to take up other development projects. The yet to be tapped tourism potential of the district are other areas of concern.

He said plans had been chalked out to exploit these areas to avail the benefits. He added that the connectivity to the tourist spots would be improved. He added St Mary’s Island would be developed by investing Rs 70 lakh.  Observatories will be set up at shore and police watch towers will be introduced. Besides, tourist friendly kiosks will be set up for visitors safety.

 Mannupalla Lake in Manipal will also be developed based on the PPP( Public Privat Partnership) model.  The funds, that are available will be spent based on the requirement.  The investment in the project should also ensure income, which in turn will be utilised for up keep and development.
