Udupi seer calls for support to migrant labour

Udupi, Oct 14, 2017: Vishwesha Tirtha Swami of Paryaya Pejawar Mutt, Udupi  on October 13, Friday gave a call for support to migrant workers. he said all the people of Udupi district, should join hands and help in the process of development.

He was speaking after inaugurating the Karnataka Migrant Workers Convention-2017 organised by the Krishna Mutt/Temple and the Concerned for the Working Children at Rajangana here.

The Pejawar seer said that it was due to economic and other reasons that the workers from other districts of the State were arriving in Udupi. The people of the district had been broad-minded in accommodating them.

The government and the people of the district, who had utilised the services of the migrant workers, should respond positively to the demands of the latter. If there were any minor misunderstanding between migrant workers or the migrant workers and others, they should be resolved amicably, he said.

Pramod Madhwaraj, Minister of State for Fisheries, Youth Empowerment and Sports, said that the demands of the migrant workers had come to the notice of the government and all efforts would be made to fulfil them.

Kota Srinivas Poojary, MLC, said that it was essential that the migrant workers kept their surroundings clean, shunned alcoholism and provided good education to their children.

He lauded the Alevoor Gram Panchayat for providing land to the migrant workers and basic facilities to their colony there. A similar measure was being proposed in Harady village, he said.

Sangappa, president of the State unit of Building and Other Construction Migrant Workers Association, presided over the function. Dinakar Babu, president of the Zilla Panchayat, and others were present.

Yallappa welcomed the gathering. Basavaraj Rathod proposed a vote of thanks. Earlier, the migrant workers took out a procession from Chittaranjan Circle to Rajangana.
