The arrested are Bharath (22), Nayaz (29), and Venkatesh (21) from Bangalore, who had arrived at Udupi a few days back and were planning a large-scale dacoity in Manipal and Udupi. The police, who had received a tip off regarding the 3, kept an eye on them and arrested them.

Police have also confiscated seven weapons including machetes, swords, and a toy revolver from the three. A car with fake license plates, which the three had stolen, was also confiscated; and the police are now trying to trace the rightful owner of the car.

The gang planned to burgle isolated houses in Udupi and Manipal and retire. The arrested are wanted by the Bangalore police for a variety of crimes they committed there. Nayaz was convicted for murder and released in Jan 2010. He has been in and out of jail for drug dealing and robbery.
