He said the fish market is to accommodate 173 vendors, earlier, it was designed for 96.  However, the design is being changed now. The full-fledged market would provide all facilities to the fish vendors, Alva added.

He said that the authority is entitled to take up works in all sectors, left out by the various departments.

The CDA chairman said that State government has released Rs 10 crore to take up development works. Currently, the authority constructs fish markets and suspension bridges, Alva said.

He said rural connectivity has been given priority. Only exclusive works are taken up. Last year, 11 fish markets were considered, of which nine are in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, while two are in Uttara Kannada district. The foundation stone for the suspension bridge at Kuppepadav would be laid on November 15.

Foundation stone for another fish market at Mudrangadi would be laid on November 14. The newly-built fish market would be inaugurated at Shirva on the day. A new fish market in Panemangaluru would be inaugurated on November 15, he added.    Alva said there were issues related to the release of funds as the post of the CDA chairman was lying vacant for several months.

The Union government has released funds for the projects taken up by the authority. There is no dearth of funds for any projects initiated by the CDA. Measures would be chalked out to introduce grid locks and parking zone at the fish market.
