Udupi district to promote tourism, home stays to be given prominence

Udupi, Sep 01, 2016: Udupi DC T. Venkatesh, has directed officials to explore the possibilities of promoting home stays in Udupi district to encourage tourism. He was chairing a meeting of the District Tourism Development Committee at the District Offices.


Udupi DC 1DC Venkatesh said that it was necessary to create awareness among the people about home stays. They should also formulate regulations for starting home stays and also make people aware about them in the district.

Aquarium: The DC  directed officials of the Departments of Tourism and Fisheries to prepare a project report to construct an aquarium at the Manna Palla Lake in Manipal.  He also directed officials to consider the proposal of an applicant who had applied for permission for starting a boathouse on the Swarna river at Kallianpur.

The beach cleaning machine ordered for the maintenance of Malpe beach was expected to reach here by September 6.  This machine should be utilised for cleaning all the beaches in the district, he said. He directed officers of KRIDL, Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Ltd. to expedite development works at Padubidri, Kaup, Trasi, Malpe and Othinane.   Closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras should be installed at vital locations at the Kaup Light House. There was also a proposal to construct an international-level health city.

Tourism Day : The World Tourism Day would be celebrated on the Padubidri beach on September 27 this year.

The officers will organise cultural and sports activities at Padubidri on that day. They are expected to also coordinate with the Alva’s Education Foundation in the matter. Nagesh Raikar, Deputy Secretary of Zilla Panchayat, Nagaraj, Assistant Director of Tourism, D. Manjunathaiah, Commissioner of Udupi City Municipal Council, and Arun Kumar, Project Director of Nirmiti Kendra, and others were present.
