Udupi, June 18, 2015: Udupi MLA Pramod Madhwaraj, June 17, Wednesday directed officials to shift the huts of road construction workers located close to National Highway 66, near Brahmavar Sugar Factory, to a safe location without any delays. At a meeting of village accountants, revenue inspectors, and panchayat development officers, on the distribution of sites to the landless persons in Udupi Assembly Constituency. MLA Madhwaraj said that the shifting of huts was essential to avoid accidents on NH 66.
On the issue of people land less in Udupi the MLA said that there were many people living in rented houses in the city. They had expressed desire to move out of the city to villages if they got land sites. Udupi Tahsildar informed the meeting that 1,427 applications received from persons in the city, claiming to have no land, had been verified and 490 had been found to be eligible.
MLA Madhwaraj said that it was essential to publish the list of those selected for public objections. The process of giving sites in a completely transparent manner is necessary. The village accountants were told to collect supporting documents such as Aadhaar cards and ration cards along with applications of people without land in rural areas and the village accountants should verify the documents by September 30.
