Udupi : Three-day Fruit and Flower Show gets underway

Udupi, Jan 30, 2016 :  Deputy Commissioner R Vishal inaugurated a three day ’Fruit and Flower  Show 2016’ at the Flower Auction Centre at Doddanagudde on January 29, Friday. The event has been organised by the Udupi   Zilla Panchayat and Department of Horticulture.

In his inaugural address,  the Deputy Commissioner said the flower show was organised mainly to  create awareness among farmers on the different methods of commercial farming and also about micro irrigation as well as government schemes.

Annamalai, SP of Udupi  in his address said the flower and fruit show would inspire many too take up floriculture and horticulture  which too can be a profitable profession.

Priyanka Mary Francis, CEO of Udupi Zilla Panchayat, Dr. M. Hanumantappa, Director of Krishi Kendra, Brahmavar, B Siddaramaiah, Deputy Director, Animal Husbandry Department,  KA Vijaykumar, Deputy Director of Horticulture and others were present on the occasion.


Nearly 32 variety of flowers are on display at the show. Shivalingappa, a flower artiste from Hubballi has created a wonderful portrait in Rangoli powder, which has been attracting visitors.  Natural sun dried flowers which are displayed by Sandhya, a floral designer from Bengaluru is also  one of the highlights of the show.

Vegetable carvings  depicting a Linga and Lord Ganesha  by Raghavendra Mogaveera Kodlady is also very attractive. A lotus made of onions, a white chariot decorated with red roses are also presenting a splendid view.

People are even taught methods of growing vegetables like ladies finger and tomatoes in their terrace gardens.
