Udupi TP member killed in road accident

Udupi, Oct 25, 2015 : A member of the Udupi Taluk Panchayat was killed when he fell from his motorcycle and was then run over by a truck at Saligrama village coming under Kota Police Station limits on Oct 24, Saturday evening.

According to the Kota police, Keshav Kumar, aged about 40, was driving his motorcycle from Saligrama to Udupi, when his vehicle hit the divider on the National Highway 66 and he fell down near Mantapa Hotel in Saligrama.

A fish laden lorry moving in the same direction ran over him and he died on the spot.  A case had been registered at the Kota police station and investigations were on.

Rash and negligent driving by the lorry driver is said to be the cause of the accident, the police said.

Such cases are on the increase and point to the fact that heavy vehicle drivers are indulging in prohibited level of speed and are not able to control/stop the vehicle in time.

It is time that a fool proof way to check this is adopted by authorities.
