Padubidri, Feb 3, 2014 :The nation must realise the potential of its younger generation and create a conducive environment for their overall development as well as the development of the nation, said State Minister for Urban Development and Udupi District in-charge Minister Vinaykumar Sorake.
He was speaking after inaugurating the State level Yuvajana Mela and Youth Award presentation ceremony at Sri Kshetra Ulloor on February 2, Sunday by lighting the lamp before the Tulasi Katte.
Sorake also called upon the younger generation to derive inspiration from the life and ideals of Swami Vivekananda.
Udupi MP Jayaprakash Hegde released a souvenir entitled ‘ Sadhana’ brought out to commemorate the occasion. Upendra Nayak,Udupi ZP President, Ganapathi T Sriyan, President tof the Standing Committee on Health and Education. Gowri T Poojari, TP Chief, Dharmapal U Devadiga, President of Akhila Bharatha Tulu Okkoota, MT Reju, Deputy Commissioner, Dr Roshan Kumar, Assistant Director of the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports and others were present.
Nine outstanding youngsters were awarded the Swami Vivekananda State Youth Awards which carry a cash prize of Rs 10,000. The recipients are Mahesh Goralanalakar Mailur, Hemalatha Amritanur, Nagashree MN Basavanagudi, Jamalasaba Ranebennur, Nagaraj G Naik Idagunji, Manjunath T Gadaga, Shyamala AH Shantinagar, Shimoga, KN Swami Chikkabommasandra and Nageshwar Rao.
The Soraba Taluk Yuvajana Sangha and Maanwi-Muddapura Vande Mataram Yuvaka Sangha also received cash awards of Rs 25000 each.
Guinness record holding swimmer Gopal Kharvi was also honoured with a cash prize of Rs 5000.
The event was held under the aegis of the Government of Karnataka, Udupi District Administration, Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports, Alva’s Foundation, Moodbidri and Ellur Yuvaka Mandala.
