Udupi, Jan 18, 2016:   The grand Paryaya festivities in the temple town of Udupi  commenced with Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji of Pejawar Mutt ascending the Paryaya Sarvajna Peetha for the fifth time at a grand and  traditional ceremony held in the presence of  thousands of people from across the nation and globe in the wee hours of January 18, Monday.

The Pejawar seer ascended the throne after  having a Darshan of Lord Krishna through the  Kanakana Kindi and donating Nava Dhanyas to Brahmins. Earlier, he even offered prayers at the Sri Chandramauleshwara and Sri Anantheshwara Temples after arriving to Carstreet by a procession early morning.

A host of dignitaries including   veteran BJP leader  L K Advani, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala D Veerendra Heggade, Union Ministers Venkaiah Naidu, Uma Bharathi, Ananth Kumar,  State Ministers Vinay Kumar Sorake, HK Patil, RV  Deshpande, former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Panneerselvam, former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa, Rajya Sabha MP Oscar Fernandes and   former union minister Veerappa Moily graced the occasion.

After the seer ascended the Paryaya, the traditional Paryaya Darbar was held at the Shree Krishna Mutt. Sri Kaniyoor Mutt Swamiji accorded a welcome to the new Paryaya seer on the occasion.

 BJP veteran L K Advani who addressed the gathering, said he was immensely pleased to participate in the Paryaya of Pejawar seer whom he knew since several years. He also  spoke about his long association with the Pejawar seer and said the experience was unique to participate in the Paryaya. He said he had a strong feeling that he was abundantly blessed by visiting the Krishna Mutt.

Union Water Resources Minister Uma Bharathi said it was Pejawar see who gave her Sanyasa Deeksha and that she was the first  female disciple of the Mutt  in its history. Uma Bharathi said  she  respected all religions and wants everyone to respect each other’s religions.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu in his address also said he was  happy to participate in the Paryaya  celebrations and was all praise for the various  religious and welfare activities of the Pejawar swamiji.

In his maiden address after ascending the Paryaya Sarvajna Peetha, the Pejawar Swamiji said it is not only knowledge and worship of Lord that will help an individual attain salvation. "Even  those rendering selfless service to humanity will attain salvation," he said. He further added that  the need of the hour for man is to forgo his pride, unnecessary ego and prejudices. Whatever may be one’s profession, sincerity and  honesty is a must, the seer further added.

He also revealed his plans to start educational institutions at Pajaka near Katapady during his Paryaya period. He further stated that   he plans to install a box  in front of the Lord Krishna’s idol so that devotees can slip in a chit mentioning about the bad habits they have decided to shun.

He also did not forget  to thank  Muslim organisations which too were part of the festivities by organising various programmes including a blood donation camp.

 On this occasion Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji  had a word of praise for his junior Sri Vishwa Prasanna Theertha Swamiji who decided to forgo the chance of ascending the Paryaya Peetha so that his Guru could ascend the Peetha for a record fifth time.

He also stated that he could ascend the Peetha for the record fifth time owing to the blessings of Lord Krishna, Lord Mukhyaprana and Saints Vadiraja and Madhwacharya.

Union Minister Ananth Kumar, Sri Lakshmivara Theertha Swamiji of Shiroor Mutt  and others spoke.

Earlier, Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade welcomed the gathering said the Mutt has received 400 tonnes of rice and  8 lakh coconuts as Hore Kanike.

As part of cultural  programme a special Vande Mataram dance was presented by students of Alva’s College, Moodbidri.
