Udupi Sri Krishna Mutt faces water scarcity

Udupi, May 7, 2016:Water scarcity that is being widely experienced is now also faced by Udupi Sri Krishna Mutt as well.The mutt is purchasing 10 tankers of water everyday. It provides meals (as prasada) in the afternoon and night to devotees.  At least 3,000 to 5,000 devotees consume the food at the mutt everyday.

The number of devotees is high on weekends. Krishna Mutt supplies meals to 35,000 children under ’Chinnara Santharpane’ in the district. A huge quantity of water is required for cooking and cleaning purposes regularly.  There are two wells in the mutt. The water level has declined and is not sufficient for the requirements of the mutt.

With the depletion in water level, the Theppotsava in Madhwa Sarovara has been suspended, the mutt staff said.
