Udupi, May 09, 2015: The skeletal remains of a contract labourer of UPCL was found at Bikriguttu near Padebettu in Padubidri on May 8, Friday. The cause of the death is however a mystery. The head was found covered in plastic and a nylone rope was also found around the neck of the body. The man was reported missing ever since he had left home to attend a wedding on April 17.
The body was identified on the basis of the clothes and footwear found. His name has been given as Raja Patel, son of Rukurma Patel of Jeevargi in Kalaburagi district. The suspicion among locals is that he might have been murdered. Raja was working for UPCL through a private firm since two years and had left home to attend a cousin’s wedding and also to visit a relative’s house at Lingappaiah Kadu but never returned either to Padubidri nor his hometown Jeevargi.
The police are investigating the cause of the death. Sources said earlier a UPCL worker had also been taken into custody for questioning in connection with the case.
