Udupi: Shops selling essential commodities will be open only between 7.00 to 11.00 am on Sunday, DC

Udupi, March 28, 2020: The Udupi district administration in its efforts to contain the outbreak of Covid-19, ordered all shops and establishments selling essential commodities to remain open only between 7 am to 11 am on Sunday, March 29.

Udupi Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesha on Saturday warned of legal action, including seizing of the passports of overseas returnees, on charges of violating home-quarantine guidelines that have been put in place by the district administration.

G Jagadeesha said in a statement here, some people who are advised to undergo home quarantine are seen flouting the guidelines and putting others at risk. Though are tracked, some of them have been found violating the government’s strict order of home-quarantine. The list of travellers is handed over to the Taluk administration and the police for tracking them. If anyone is found violating the order, a criminal case will be booked against them.

"We would recommend to permanently seize the passports of those who have returned from foreign countries and do not adhere to the strict guidelines. About 1,100 people are under home quarantine across the district. The district administration is pasting stickers outside the residences of those who have been recommended for home quarantine by the doctors" he added.
