Udupi: Palimar Mutt performs Kattige Muhurtha

Udupi, August 27, 2017: The Palimar Mutt performed the ‘Kattige Muhurta’, the third of the preliminaries before the next Paryaya festival, here on Sunday, August 27. Elaborate rituals marked the event.

Sri Vidyadheeshateertha Swamiji of Palimar Math will be ascending the ‘Paryaya Peetha’, also known as the ‘Sarvajna Peetha’ at the 800-year-old Sri Krishna Mutt on January 18 next year. It will be his second Paryaya.

A procession of devotees carried firewood from the entrance of the Pejawar Mutt to the place marked for the construction of the ‘Kattige Ratha’ or firewood chariot near the Madhwa Sarovara pond. This piled firewood would be utilised by the Paryaya mutt during their two year Paryaya period which comes once in two years among the seers of Asta Mutt (Eight mutts) on rotation.

Prayers were offered and rituals were conducted by the priests on the occasion.

Earlier to Kattige Muhurtha, ‘Bale Muhurtham’ (planting of Banana saplings) and ‘Akki Muhurtham’ (storing of rice). The preparatory process of main Paryaya festival will be culminated with the fourth and final leg preparation of ‘Bhattha Muhurtha’ (storing of paddy) which will be held during December this year.

Swamiji and scholars from the Ashta Maths, Palimar Math Diwan Shibarur Vedavyasa Tantri, Paryaya committee secretary Balaji Raghavendra Acharya, Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, Harikishna Punaroor and others were present.
