Udupi: One more arrested in the murder of Santosh Nayak

Udupi, Jan 20, 2017: Udupi police have arrested another person  in connection with the case of kidnap and murder of Santosh Nayak from Parkala Sannakkibettu last December.

Rajesh Acharya (36), resident of Jain Compound, Attavar Mangaluru is identified as the accused.  Gold ornaments worth Rs 80,500 were seized from him.


It is said that Santosh had gone missing on December 02, his wife Sumitra had lodged a complaint at Hiriadka on  January 04 alleging that the Praveen Kulal who was killed  on December 19 was behind the murder of her husband. Meanwhile, the police probe into the Kulal murder case also shed light on Santosh Nayak case. Investigations revealed that Santosh who had borrowed Rs 40 lakhs from Wilfred Arthur, Nityanand and Jayanth Pai was troubling them without repaying it since several years. It is said they had approached Praveen to help them. The SP said Praveen had reportedly kidnapped Santosh on December 02 from his in-laws’ house and forced him to repay the loan. It is said that Santosh had died due to the torture.


Eight persons were already arrested in Santosh’s case but police were in search of Rajesh and finally traced him.


A police team led by DCIB police inspector Sampath Kumar under the directions of Udupi SP K T Balakrishna had taken up the investigation. The accused Rajesh is handed over to Manipal police for further investigation.
