Udupi : One Held in Connection with Shriva Church case

Udupi, dec 12 Dec 2016: Udupi police arrest on person in connection with the Shirva church case on  December 12, Monday near Bnatakal bus stand.

The accused has been identified as Benedict D’Souza(56), driver by profession.  Benedict stays all alone since his wife and daughter are employed abroad.


The Parish Pastoral Council of Shirva Church, warning of protest, gave a three day deadline to the Udupi police to nab the accused. Finally the police have been successful in arresting the accused on credible information near Bantakal bus stand on Monday evening. Benedict had surrendered himself saying that he had done this act in intoxicated state.


Bishop of Udupi diocese Gerald Isaac Lobo, MP Oscar Fernandes, MA Gafoor, chairman, Chief Whip and MLC Ivan D’Souza, Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje, Kaup MLA Vinay Kumar Sorake visited the church on Monday to analyze all the factors involved.
