Udupi: Officials told to take up BPL cards distribution other matters, urgently

Udupi, June 26, 2015:  Minister for Urban Development Vinay Kumar Sorake, speaking at taluk level KDP meet, directed officials to urgently set right the problems involved in distribution of BPL cards. The minister said at least 1,565 applicants have not received ration cards in Udupi taluk. They are deprived of various government facilities.  He also said ration cards have print errors. He directed Udupi Tahsildar to look into the complaints and interact with Food Department officials, NIC Officials and PDOs separately to set right the matters.  He then directed the Tahsildar to rectify the problems of 94 C.

The Agriculture Department officials informed that the district received 640 mm rainfall as against the expected 950 mm rain till date.  The paddy seeds and fertilizers are in abundance, they said. The minister also directed the officials to take up the problems in the implementation of the Matsyashraya Yojane.

He said the officials should hold meeting within 15 days to decide over the distribution of houses to the homeless needy. He directed the officials to take steps on the discontinuation of the construction of houses since 2010-11.  The minister directed the officials to immediately prepare the report concerning the rain damages and ensure the temporary compensation packages to the victims.

The zilla panchayat and PWD roads must be repaired and the silt in the storm water drains should be cleared for the free flow of rain water. The minister said that the government has approved Rs 1.5 crore worth Morarji Desai hostel in Heerebettu.  He said the children who have applied for the hostel facilities should be given shelter.  The public instruction department official said nearly 95 percent of the book distribution is over in the schools in the district and uniforms are being distributed.

 However, it is to be seen  how and when the officials will follow the instructions of the minister.
