Udupi, Dec 11, 2014: A three-day North East tribal and folk cultural fest “Hemanthotsava” kickstarted at the Muddana Mantapa of MGM College on December 10, Wednesday. The event has been organised by the Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manava Sangrahalaya of Bhopal along with the MGM Yakshagana Kendra. It will be held upto December 12.
Dr Darrick, Chancellor of the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University of South Africa inaugurated he programme. Dr RM Nayal, Rakesh Bhat, Senior Officers of IGRMS, Bhopal, Ashokavardhan of Mysore Regional Centre, Kusuma Kamath, Principal of MGM College, Heranje Krishna Bhat, Director of MGM Yakshagana Kendra and others were present.
As many as eight teams presented attractive cultural programmes including Thiva dance of Assam, Cheo dance of Mizoram, Punkolan dance of Manipur. There was even the Ranchandri dance from Assam tribal women and Broji dance from Arunachal Pradesh among other performances.
Members of Meghalaya Team presented the Vangala Dance which is practised by Garo tribal community while praying to the Forest God.
An exhibition cum sale of handicrafts from different states is also being held at MGM College premises from December 10 to 14 as part of the event.
