Udupi : Minister Pramod Madhwaraj launches hi-tech NURM buses

Udupi, Sep 8,2016 : Udupi District in-charge Minister Pramod Madhwaraj launched the low-floor ultra-modern buses  sanctioned to Udupi district under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban  Renewal Mission (JNNURM) at a ceremony held at Beedinagudde ground on September 7,  Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister informed that the new buses will commence operations from September 8 ( today) from the  JNNURM bus stand near the old DDPI  office.  He said a total of 30 buses have been sanctioned under the scheme to the district, and that 16 out of them  will be operational  on Thursday.

He also informed that students upto seventh standard will be offered free travel in the bus while  High School male students will be offered concessional passes   at the rate of Rs 2 per day which amounts to Rs 600 for ten months, while  girl students will be charged Re 1 per day  which will come upto Rs 400 for 10 months.  College and diploma students will have to get concessional passes by paying Rs 900  valid for 12 months,  while it is Rs 1,150 for ITI students, Rs 1400 for medical engineering students and Rs 1200 for evening college students. The  amount can be paid online, the minister added.

The bus has three high resolution CCTV cameras, panic button, voice announcement, automated doors and  wheel chair ramp for disabled among other amenities. It offers free travel or the visually impaired, freedom fighters  and their better halves,  widows of freedom fighters,  national bravery award winning children   and sitting MLCs.
