Udupi, Aug 20, 2015:  Speaking at the inaugural of a workshop for newly elected gram panchayat presidents and members affiliated to the BJP.   Udupi-Chikkamagaluru Member of Parliament Shobha Karandlaje  said that the Congress-led State government has failed to reach out to the people in the State, with a lack in implementation of social security schemes.

Shobha Karandl...MP Karandlaje said that the State government implemented ambitious schemes like Anna Bhagya, but has failed to offer rice to the poor people, as it had assured. She went on to add the ministers lack commitment and are least concerned about the problems of the people in the State. The chief minister - who always ignores the problems in other districts - is incapable of understanding the grievances of the people in his own constituency; adding that the chief minister had come out of his slumber a bit for the u BBMP elections at this week end.

She said that under the governance of the Congress, bureaucracy too had been affected with corruption.  Congress leaders are engaged in illegal activities as their government is an expert in making the innocent citizens scapegoats. Referring to the lottery scam, wherein the police official Alok Kumar was suspended.

The MP, urging the newly elected gram panchayat presidents and member to be catalysts between the government and the public, said that the gram Panchayat is the foundation for effective governance. Being the lowest rung in the three tier-government system, the gram panchayat can play an effective role in reaching out to the people, she explained. She said that the Modi-led government in the Centre was introducing pro-poor programmes. The gram Panchayat president and members should ensure the benefits of the welfare programmes are effectively delivered to the people, she advised.

The MP stated there is a need for nearly 1,500 toilets in the district. Gram panchayat members should voluntarily take up surveys of houses that lack toilets - instead of depending on official statistics - in order to ensure each household in the village under their administration limits has toilets, under the Central government-initiated ’Swacch Bharat Abhiyan’. The district has already received Rs 10.5 crore for the work and will soon receive an additional Rs 1.80 crore.

She assured that the Central government would release Rs 110 crore for the district under the Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana. Chikkamagaluru will have a Rs 360 crore under the project. The members should make lists of houses that are deprived of power facilities, for an effective implementation of the project.

Stating that the funds released under the 15th Finance Commission would be delivered directly to the gram panchayat to take up development works, she added that gram panchayats would get a minimum fund of Rs 25 lakh as against the earlier amount of Rs 8 lakh. The urban areas would get funds up to Rs 23.68 crore under the programme. .
Congress intolerant of Modi’s popularity  : Speaking to the media, Udupi  Member of Parliament Shobha Karandlaje has asserted that the people in India are proud of the foreign policy initiatives of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.  Congressmen are unable to tolerate the popularity of the Prime Minister and are attempting to malign the image of the Central government.

The Congressmen have already shown their inability as Parliamentarians, she said, adding that the leaders of the Opposition party at the Centre have also shown disrespect to the Parliament by not participating in the discussions over the amendment on the new land ordinance bill and the GST bill. The Congress has lost morality to talk against opposition parties, while the Prime Minister has given new dimensions to India’s relationships with other countries.

MP Karandlaje said a special session would be called at the end of the month to present the GST Bill for approval. The amendments for the new land ordinance bill are expected to be presented during the winter session of the Parliament. Talks will be held with the Congress too.

MP Shoba expressed confidence over the victory of the BJP candidates in the upcoming BBMP elections, the MP said that the BJP government led by former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa had released Rs 3,500 crore for the development of Bengaluru.

Scarcity of power in the State can be tackled only when the State achieves self-sustainability in power generation, said Karandlaje, adding that the State is facing acute shortage of power.  The government has failed to respond to the grievances of the farmers positively. Although the State has already received an additional Rs 10,000 crore from the Centre, the State government has not utilised the funds appropriately for the benefit of the farmers. Nearly 150 taluks in the State are still drought-affected.
