Udupi, Nov 13, 2015 : Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje has demanded an explanation from the government regarding the objective with which it organised Tipu Jayanthi celebrations which has led to violence in the state.
She was addressing a protest organised by the Bhajarang Dal and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad here on November 13, Friday to condemn the Kodagu violence as well as the death of a youth in Bantwal in a stabbing case.
She also wanted to know as to why the government decided to go ahead with Tipu Jayanthi programmes even when Hindu organisations have been opposing it since the past several days.
She was also highly critical of the statement of State Minister KJ George soon after the Madikeri incident, that VHP leader Kuttappa died due to a fall.
"Injustice is being done to Hindus during the Congress rule in the state," Shobha alleged.
Baikady Suprasad Shetty, District President of VHP also spoke on the occasion. K Raghupathi Bhat, former MLA, Tingale Vikramarjun Hegde, District BJP President, Mattar Ratnaker Hegde, District BJP Spokesperson and others were present.
The protestors also held a road blockade near the Clock Tower. When the protestors refused to disperse as per the orders of the Police, they were detained and later released.
Protest in Kundapur : In Kundapur too, activists of BJP and Hindu organisations blocked traffic near the Shastri Circle on November 13, Friday to condemn the violence following Tipu Jayanthi celebrations.
MLC Kota Srinivas Poojary blamed the State Government for all the trouble following Tipu Jayanthi celebrations.
The Highway was blocked by the protestors for nearly half an hour. Belve Vasanth Kumar Shetty, District BJP President, Rajesh Kaveri, Kundapur Block BJP President and others participated in the protest.
